Recommendation
IEEE to develop a "fair play" code of ethics for organizations and companies supporting student projects such that credit is given where credit is due, and that when there is financial gains originating from such collaborations, and when the student has not paid to undertake the work, that the student is appropriately compensated.
.

Comments on Recommendation
This recommendation has particular application respecting the Code of Conduct for Companies/Organizations Sponsoring Student Final Year Projects. It suggests that the IEEE take more of an advocacy role in protecting the rights of Engineering Students. As regular judges of student final year projects, we have observed a trend where for very minimal investment by companies and organizations, students have developed capabilities and end products (particularly in the field of software engineering) that are being exploited for profit without the student(s) receiving compensation.

Response from IEEE Canada President (where warranted)
