Recommendation
IEEE to arrange for IEEE members to speak in schools about careers in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering (we must never forget the latter two). IEEE members could also offer to be resources for students preparing science fair projects.

Comments on Recommendation

Response from IEEE Canada President (where warranted)
.
Direct contact between members of IEEE and students can indeed play an important role in promoting career choices in these areas.
.
To a certain extent, we do this through partnerships with organizations such as Engineers Canada and its provincial constituent members in activities such as Engineering Week/Month. Those wishing to learn more about IEEE Canada involvement in Engineering Week can contact IEEE Canada secretary Raman Paranjape (Raman.Paranjape@uregina.ca).
.
IEEE's Teacher In-Service Program also is applicable. Although the primary thrust is to help teachers to better equip their students to choose careers in engineering through workshops, in many instances, IEEE volunteers in Canada find it necessary/desirable to conduct activities themselves in-classroom.
.
Presentations specifically about careers could perhaps piggyback on relationships already started with specific schools/boards by IEEE Canada's TISP Committee (http://tisp.ieee.ca/). Its chair is Anis Haque (sahaque@ucalgary.ca). All IEEE Canada members (and teachers) are welcome to participate.
